The last evening of the year ...

I'll be spending my New Year's eve alone, quietly, and I'm OK with that.  It's my choice.

What are you doing on this last evening of the year?

The Duchess

Another well done Keira Knightly film, The Duchess (2008) tells the story of 18th century aristocrat Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, who was reviled for her extravagant political and personal life.

Although this is a "costume drama", the strory of the central character is by turns breathtaking and heartbreaking.  Although she was an aristocrat, because she was a woman of her times Georgina's rights were constricted -- and suffocated -- as was her happiness.

I came away with a feeling of having seen a beautiful bird frantically beating her wings against a gilded cage.  "All my life" says the Duchess, "I've been fighting my way upstream".

Don't Little Miss Christmas and Holly Belle have the CUTEST outfits?

Cameo, oh cameo!

From the Wedgwood Archive Collection, introduced in 2004, this pink cameo mug is -- dare I say it -- my favorite mug in the whole world.

Only problem is, I don't own one!

They are still available. but pricey.  Still, I'm saving my shillings to buy one.  I don't know if it's part of a full line or just the mug.

If there is a full line I am in trouble with a capital T, because I will want it all.  Pink, cameo motif, beaux arts style garland and ribbon ... if I were a mug, I'd want to be this mug.  It's regal but girly at the same time;  the pink stops it from taking itself too seriously.

This is raving of a design-crazy person.  I realize that, and I don't apologize.  It's a vice, what can I say?
