Chair, there, and everywhere.

What a conversation piece! Spied on sweet and subtle blog stipje. Fantastic use of vintage image ... I guess I just never think of images in that way. When I think print and pattern I don't think of things like this ... but it is beguiling.

Cover Story

A cover like this one makes me want to pick up the book and find a comfy seat so I can thumb through it, savoring each page. Not just because there's a dog on it, either (though of course that helps. That always helps).

The author Tara Guerard is a big-time event planner in the Southeast, apparently.

While I admire a big fancy event, if I were ever to marry again I'd want the pleasure of planning my own modest event. It would be a daisies and tulips type of wedding, in a small chapel or church. I am a little bit hooked on the whole IDEA of a wedding, much less so on the idea of actually pledging my eternal troth again.

But hey ... it could happen. If George Clooney ever comes to his senses, for heaven's sake, I might just still be available.

Maybe.

Good gear.

Although there is no doubt I'd look like a bloated lemon bursting at the seams in this J. Crew jacket, I really like it. Could be because it snowed here today in the greater Boston area -- BEFORE HALLOWEEN, which is just plain wrong -- and I need a shot of color in the midst of this sea of gray and white.

The fall colors are still on the trees but somehow they don't look quite as nice with a layer of snow icing.

I would argue, though, that I like this jacket because a) it's kind of boyish in an Audrey-Hepburn/gamine way, b) it's like a world-gone-slightly-mad version of the peacoat (beautiful but a bit boring), and c) it's a color that would gamely stand up to the worst weather New England can hand out.

Which frankly, can be pretty bad.

New England Autumn

Aroostook County, Maine: October 10, 2009

Beauty in chaos and transformation: these maize-yellow leaves rustled and danced, and one by one they fell free of the tree. What painterly beauty, against the wind-whipped blue of the sky!
