Room of the Day

I've decided to incorporate a LOT of white in my apartment and pink (of course!)  I even got permission from the building management to paint the walls a pale shade of pink.

Of course, I actually have to DO the painting ... which means it may take a while.

Red and white laundry room:  cute as a button.

I wouldn't mind doing the washing up in here!

I'm going to paint my walls!

I finally decided to do something about the dreary walls in my apartment.  The light comes in only one side (from the West, so it's brightest in the afternoon), and the place needs a total facelift ... starting with paint.

On Sunday I went to the Home Depot and picked out Behr's Paris White, which is actually more white than the above swatch would suggest.  (I realize different screens show the same hue differently, but on my screen it's more pink than it is in real life).

It's the lightest shade of ballerina pink mixed with a bright white.  I want the newly painted walls to have the effect of casting a bright, rosy glow in the room without standing up and saying "Hi, I'm PINK!"  The small swatch I've painted so far from the sample jar suggests that Paris White will do the trick.  Exciting!!

I am going to have this place looking like a grown up girly girl lives here, if it takes me a year or more (and it might, on my budget).  But I've already been here nearly a year, so time passes, and what's the huge rush anyway?

Just want to do it RIGHT.  Right for me.

Hello, yellow!

For the longest time, yellow was my favorite color.  Truth be told, it's still a very close second to pink!

I think this wedding cake is iced in just the perfectly right shade of buttery yellow.  The splash of daisies is the perfect touch.

In a wedding designed around a yellow and white scheme, this would be the perfect flower girl's dress.

If it were a Spring wedding (and doesn't yellow just sing Spring?), buckets of casually arranged tulips in pale yellow and white would be right at home.

Of course, there would also have to be daisies ... and lillies of the valley, because they are the single best smelling flower I've ever encountered.  (We are talking about my wedding here, right?)

They also happen to be some of the prettiest ones -- which never hurts!

To state the glaringly obvious, I am firmly fixed on beauties of the past.  Quite happily and unapologetically!

Magazine find! life : beautiful

Discovered via the very pretty blog hooray.

The cover of the Winter 2010 issue of life : beautiful is absolutely Martha Stewart Weddings-worthy.

Which is to say STUNNING!

Below are snapshots of pages from past issues, all taken from the magazine's website:

Holy smokes ... I am in LOVE!

Why do you visit Buttercup Bungalow?

I am curious to know.

I realize I don't do a lot of talking about my life personally here (though I used to do a lot more, and may again in the future).

My "numbers" tell me there are visits to the blog, and 61 people have me on their Google-connected blog favorites, but I don't really have a sense of who my visitors are and why they keep coming back.

So ... I'd like to know who you are.  I'd like to know about your blog (if you have one), your interests, why Buttercup Bungalow appeals to you, what enthuses you the most here ...

I keep this blog going because I have a need to collect images of environments and things that strike me as too beautiful not to share.  It's really not more complicated than that.  I keep another blog that has me far busier, having to do with another of my passions (Welsh Corgis), but this is a place I come to as a refuge from all of that work (and the other blog really has become a lot of work ... it's more than a blog, now.  Which I'm proud of, but it's time consuming!)

If Buttercup were my primary blog, it would be much more.  Although I could never hope to compete with the most popular design blogs (not sure I'd even want to), it would be more frequent and "juicier".

Anyway, I look forward to (hopefully) feedback via comments ... talk to me!!  I'm listening.

Thanks,

Laurie

Some notes on this post ...

... those not-bashful saturated blue more than stand right up, even against the fruity hot pinks, don't they?  One of them is reminiscent of a turquoise Mykonos sky ... then there is that sumptuous iris blue-purple ... and the painted rose in blue.  The way it sits so regally against that pure white background.

My oh my ... such outrageous beauty.

Don't you agree?
